What to know before you move.
Coastal Malibu has its own rules. Homes in the coastal zone can need California Coastal Commission or local coastal permits for remodels and additions, and short-term rental rules are set by the city, so check both before you plan around them.
Close to the water, I also look at flood zone maps, insurance quotes and the age of the home's systems early in escrow, because salt air and older construction show up in inspections.
